Museo del Prado
Madrid, Spain

Located in central Madrid, the Museo Nacional del Prado is Spain’s most popular art gallery – and widely considered to be among the finest in the world.

Constructed in 1785, the building was originally envisaged as a museum of natural history, but subsequently identified as the perfect place to show-off the enviable art collection of the Spanish royal family.

It was in this capacity that the Prado opened its doors to the public in 1819 – and since then, it has only grown bigger and better!

With a focus on European art from the 12th to early 20th centuries, the

Prado is best known for its unrivalled collection of Spanish masters (especially Diego Velázquez and Francisco Goya) as well as key works by the likes of Titian, Bosch, Rubens, and El Greco.

Somewhat unusually, visitors to the museum aren’t allowed to take photos (and get a stern telling-off if they try). So, it’s a good job you can simply save all of your favourites with MuseMuse!
